Cons: Since it's an authentic old house, you can hear every step on the wooden floor. The pillows were not comfy. The price is quite expensive for the room you get. Pros: Really like the location, it is in a less touristy area, very quiet, in a family friendly area. Local bars near by, and the park next to it is perfect for people who want to bring their running shoes ;) The staff is intentional, and not local therefore they are super nice and welcoming, love how kind they are also to old people who need slower explanations. Plenty of trams to take you into the city, 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The airport bus is only a 5 min walk. We didn't take the breakfast so I can't say if it's good or not. Overall we really enjoyed the location especially, the room is okay, price could be cheaper.

- Comfy beds, nice balcony, quiet surroundings. - Good size of room for Amsterdam standards and the hotel has a lift as well which is convenient for people with heavy luggage (though you will still have to carry your bags up a small amount of stairs, at the entrance and after the lift). - We were happy that the heater in the room was working well and there were English TV channels as well - Cute and cozy touch with the free mini stroopwafels and biscuits offered in the room - I liked the peaceful terrace and garden where you could enjoy the breeze and hear birds chirping in the morning. - Good breakfast daily but could use more variety. - Linen closet readily available for you to take extra towels if needed - The staff were all really helpful and friendly!

I was looking for a quiet room close to the Leidseplein area which is theatre, art, and dance. The famous Mielkweg dance club is 6-8 blocks away. The immediate area is very quiet and residential. The hotel itself has a lovely terrace and courtyard in the back when you want to enjoy reading or have quiet conversation with friends. Receptionist Andre gave me several ideas for places to dance. Live music, jazz, and more. Yes, like most boutique hotels this has stairs but it also has an elevator. You’re still hauling luggage but compared to the hotels before and after I didn’t feel like I was ready for Mt Everest when I got done.

Booked the quadruple room (2 queen sized beds). Loved that there was an elevator, and that the room was spacious and connected to the outdoor patio and garden. Loved that coffee and tea were available free of charge throughout the stay. You cannot, and I mean cannot beat the location! easy access to tram, walking distance (a little over 10 minutes) to the Van Gogh Museum, and lots of shops, cafes and restaurants. Appreciated the hotel letting us leave our luggage back (post check-out) so we could enjoy the city a bit more before heading to our next destination.

There are several reasons to choose Hotel Alexander. Most of all, perfect location: central--we could walk everyplace; near the Vondelpark and in the Museum Quarter; quiet, safe, peaceful. Also: friendly and very helpful staff; calm, cozy public space (good for an early AM riser like me--I could go down to the lobby/breakfast room and make myself a cappuccino and hang out there). It's relatively affordable, good value for hospitality this good.
